Bern has a small airport served by Skyworks (www.skyworks.com), an airline that offers direct flights from various European cities (e.g. Amsterdam, London, Berlin). Consider choosing this airport even when the airfares are slightly more expensive: connecting trains to Bern from the main airports can cost about 50CHF each way.
On landing in Bern, take a taxi; or the bus to Belp train station and S-Bahn train to Bern main railway station. Then change to tram No. 9 in the direction of ‘Wankdorf Bahnhof’ to the ‘Kursaal’ stop.
If you are unable to travel directly to Bern, all major international airlines and low cost carriers fly to Swiss airports: look for the best alternatives to travel to Geneva, Basel or Zurich.
Train services are frequent and easily accessible from all major airports to Bern (approx. 90 minutes of travel time). It is recommended to buy the train ticket from outside Switzerland via the internet: https://www.sbb.ch/en/
If instead you plan to extend your stay and to travel to other locations, consider other options such as any of the SWISS TRAVELCARDS or the SWISS HALF-FARE CARD, which are also valuable if you plan to use boats or cable cars within Switzerland. By public transport
Bern is located in the heart of Switzerland and easy to reach by public transport.
There are numerous direct train services from France (TGV), Germany (ICE), and Italy to Bern, and via Zurich from Austria. Night trains are also available: https://www.nightjet.com/en/

From Bern main railway station the No. 9 tram departs at approximately 10-minute intervals in the direction of ‘Wankdorf Bahnhof ‘. Travel time to the ‘Kursaal’ stop is approximately 5 minutes.
Motorway exit Bern-Wankdorf – straight ahead direction “Zentrum” – in Papiermühlestrasse take the right lane – at the third crossroads turn right into Viktoriastrasse – at Viktoriaplatz turn left into Kornhausstrasse. We are located 100 metres further on the right (under the bridge). (GPS : 46.9527915 °N / 7.4481958 ° E)
Make sure that you buy a “Vignette” which is an additional payment for using Swiss highways. It costs 40 CHF, and can be used for one year (January through to January).
Make sure that you can park your car at the hotel or have a reserved parking arranged by the hotel. Parking in the official parking garages can be very expensive.
The underground garage offers direct lift access to the Kursaal Bern & Hotel Allegro.

Bern is very touristy, welcoming visitors from all over the world every year. Make sure you book your accommodation as early as possible because hotels and apartments fill up fast.

Climate in Berne
In spring the daytime temperature range is 8 to 15 °C (46° – 59° F). March to May the trees blossom and the meadows turn green. Sometimes in April the winter returns for a short period and sometimes there are summer conditions as early as May. Precipitation is distributed over the entire year. Nevertheless check the weather forecast before the trip.
What to expect from Bern
The medieval UNESCO World Heritage City Bern, and its University, has a rich cultural and scientific tradition. The conference venue, Kursaal Bern, is ideally located within walking distance to all attractions and many hotels in the city. It offers an inviting atmosphere to exchange ideas and debate essential topics in palliative care surrounded by fantastic views of the Swiss Alps, the river Aare, and the historic city. May is one of the best and most colorful months of the year in Bern. If you have the time, prolong your stay and visit nearby sights and attractions, like the «Top of Europe».
